The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made an important decision for Class 10 students. Starting from the year 2026, the board will conduct Class 10 board exams twice a year. This change is aimed at reducing pressure on students and giving them a better chance to score well. Students will be allowed to appear in the board exams twice, and the best score out of the two attempts will be counted in the final result.
According to the new exam policy, the first exam will be mandatory for all students. The second exam will be optional, which means students can choose to appear in it only if they wish to improve their marks. This step will help students who couldn’t perform their best in the first attempt and want another chance without any extra stress.
The result of the first board exam will be announced in April, and the second optional exam’s result will be declared in June. This gap will give students enough time to prepare again if they decide to go for the second attempt. The idea behind this system is to allow learning at a comfortable pace and give students multiple opportunities to succeed.
CBSE has also decided to make changes in the internal assessment process. From 2026, internal assessments will be done only once during the academic year. This will simplify the evaluation process and reduce the workload on both students and teachers, while keeping the grading fair and consistent.
This decision is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which focuses on making education more student-friendly and stress-free. By offering two exam opportunities, CBSE is promoting continuous learning and reducing the pressure of scoring well in just one exam. This new system is expected to help students perform better and feel more confident.
These changes are a big step forward in making the education system more flexible and student-centric. Other education boards across India may also adopt similar exam patterns in the future. With this move, CBSE is setting a positive example for reform in school education.
