The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important communication dated September 17, 2026, regarding the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for the Class X and Class XII Main Examinations 2026–27. The Board has directed all affiliated schools to ensure that candidate details and subject information are submitted accurately and within the prescribed schedule.
CBSE has emphasised that the LOC is a crucial step in the preparation and conduct of the Board Examinations 2027.
Key Details Schools Need to Prepare
Before submitting the LOC, schools have been asked to verify:
- Candidate’s name, father’s/mother’s/guardian’s name and date of birth
- Correct subject codes and subject combinations
- Candidate category such as Full Subjects, Improvement or Compartment, wherever applicable
- APAAR ID, which is optional
- Details of Children With Special Needs (CWSN) candidates
For Class X, the current LOC is for the First Board Examination, which is mandatory for all candidates under the Two Board Examination policy. The LOC for the Second Board Examination will be submitted after the First Board Examination.
CBSE has also advised schools to conduct an orientation for Class X students and their parents regarding the Second Board Examination. Students should be informed that the same subjects submitted in the current LOC can be opted for in the Second Board Examination.
Eligibility of Candidates
Schools have been instructed to sponsor only their regular, bona fide and eligible students. Students must be regularly attending the school and fulfil the minimum attendance requirements prescribed by CBSE.
Schools must also ensure that:
- No eligible bona fide student is left unsponsored.
- Students are not from unauthorised or unaffiliated schools.
- Students are not registered with another School Education Board.
- Class XII students have passed Class X from a recognised School Education Board on or before the academic year 2025.
Schools Must Update OASIS and HPE Data
Existing schools must update their information on the OASIS and HPE portals before submitting the LOC. Newly affiliated schools have to enter information on OASIS and complete the required HPE process before submitting LOC data.
Schools have also been asked to ensure that teacher information in OASIS is accurate. The full names of teachers must be entered without abbreviations or salutations, and teachers who have left the school should be removed from the records.
The Board has specifically stated that the number of students sponsored should be proportionate to the number of teachers appointed, as teachers may be required for evaluation duties.
New Data Verification Slip for 2027 Exams
A new step has been introduced to help ensure the accuracy of examination data.
After the last date of LOC submission, schools will be able to generate a Data Verification Slip for each candidate. If the candidate’s name, parent/guardian details, date of birth or subject information is found to be incorrect, corrections will be permitted from:
November 2 to November 4, 2026
After this correction window closes, no further correction will be allowed by CBSE.
Important Instructions for Schools
CBSE has directed principals to closely monitor the LOC submission process. Principals are expected to obtain daily status reports from the concerned teacher or official during the seven days preceding the last date, including the status of fee payment.
The LOC must be submitted online, and the system does not provide an option to submit the data through downloadable Excel files.
Schools are also required to upload correct student photographs where necessary and ensure that the photograph corresponds to the correct candidate.
CBSE has further clarified that after the prescribed deadlines, changes relating to subjects, CWSN concessions, direct admissions, sports-related issues and examination centres will generally not be entertained as per the conditions specified in the circular.
The Board has urged schools to carefully verify all information before final submission, as accurate LOC data will help ensure the correct question papers and examination documents for students and reduce correction-related issues after results are declared.
