The Ministry of Education has highlighted the essential requirements for students to be eligible to appear in the upcoming Board Examinations. These norms apply to students across the country studying under the national school boards.
As per the notification, Class X and Class XII are structured as two-year programmes (Class IX–X and Class XI–XII respectively). To qualify for the examinations, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Two-Year Study – Students must study all subjects for a minimum of two years before appearing in the Board exams.
- Mandatory Attendance – A minimum of 75% attendance is compulsory.
- Internal Assessment – As per NEP-2020, internal assessment is an integral part of evaluation. Students failing to complete this due to irregular attendance will be placed in the “Essential Repeat” category.
- Additional Subjects – Students in Class X may opt for 2 additional subjects apart from the 5 compulsory ones, while Class XII students may opt for only 1 additional subject, all of which must also be studied for 2 years.
- School Approval – Subjects can only be offered if the school has approval, qualified teachers, and required infrastructure. Unauthorized offerings will not be allowed.
- Compartment & Essential Repeat Cases – Students placed in these categories in additional subjects can reappear only as private candidates.
- Private Candidates – Students not meeting the above criteria are not eligible to appear in additional subjects as private candidates.
This notice serves as an important reminder for schools, parents, and students to strictly follow the eligibility requirements to avoid last-minute complications.
