The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to participate in the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026–27, a national programme initiated by the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The initiative aims to promote Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), environmental sustainability and Mission LiFE activities in schools.
According to the CBSE circular, the SHVR 2026–27 implementation framework, assessment methodology and evaluation process will remain the same as those adopted during SHVR 2025–26.
Six Key Areas of Assessment
Schools will continue to be assessed across six thematic areas:
- Water
- Toilets
- Handwashing with Soap
- Operation & Maintenance
- Behaviour Change & Capacity Building
- Mission LiFE Activities
What Schools Need to Do
CBSE has requested schools to ensure timely registration on the SHVR Portal/Mobile Application and complete the self-assessment process within the prescribed timelines.
Schools have also been advised to:
- Nominate appropriate staff members to coordinate SHVR activities.
- Maintain the required records and supporting evidence.
- Encourage students, teachers and the wider school community to participate in cleanliness and sustainability initiatives.
- Promote environmentally responsible practices across the school.
- Participate in orientation and capacity-building programmes conducted by NCERT and other designated authorities.

The initiative provides schools with an opportunity to strengthen practices related to cleanliness, hygiene, sustainability and environmental responsibility, while encouraging the active involvement of the entire school community.
