The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a communication dated September 23, 2026, regarding the streamlining of the process for corrections in students’ demographic details.
The Board has emphasised that after the Class X and XII Board Examinations, students must receive their Mark Sheet-cum-Passing Certificate with correct demographic details. To achieve this, CBSE has outlined multiple stages at which schools and parents are required to verify the information.
Multiple Opportunities Provided for Verification
CBSE stated that schools and parents are given several opportunities to check and correct demographic details throughout a student’s academic journey.
These include:
- Maintaining correct details in the admission form, scholar register and admission-withdrawal register.
- Ensuring correct demographic details in the Transfer Certificate.
- Recording correct details during Class IX registration.
- Providing a correction window after registration.
- Downloading the Registration Card and providing it to students for verification.
- Rechecking registration data before submission of the Class X LOC and obtaining confirmation from parents.
- Providing another correction window after LOC submission.
- Verifying details mentioned on the admit card before examinations.
- Confirming demographic details when passing documents are issued after the result.
The same process is repeated for Classes XI and XII. According to CBSE, these stages provide approximately 20 opportunities for schools and parents to ensure that the demographic information is accurate.
CBSE Raises Concerns Over Incomplete Correction Requests
Despite these verification opportunities, CBSE has noted that it continues to receive a large number of requests for demographic corrections after results are declared.
The Board has observed several issues with such requests, including:
- Incomplete requests from schools.
- Non-submission of supporting records from all previous schools attended by the student.
- Documents that are not clearly visible.
- Documents containing multiple cuttings.
- Failure to respond when CBSE asks schools to provide additional documents.
According to CBSE, these issues cause delays in processing correction requests.
Schools Must Submit Complete Certified Records
CBSE has directed schools to strictly comply with the following requirements:
- Ensure that demographic details are 100% correct in all school records.
- Follow CBSE instructions issued during registration and LOC submission.
- Obtain confirmation from parents regarding the correctness of demographic details.
- When requesting a correction from CBSE, submit all certified records from previous schools where the student studied.
The Board has specifically stated that schools must provide complete certified records so that correction requests can be processed in the minimum possible time.
Incomplete requests will be summarily rejected by CBSE.
Students Advised to Route Requests Through Schools
CBSE has also noted that some students approach the Board directly, send legal notices or approach courts regarding demographic corrections.
The Board has advised schools to guide students to process such requests through their respective schools, as schools have access to the records required for verification. CBSE noted that pursuing alternative routes can delay decisions when the necessary school records are not available.
Strict Compliance Directed
CBSE has instructed all affiliated schools to follow the directions strictly and ensure that student demographic information is verified carefully at every stage.
