The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a communication dated September 23, 2026, directing affiliated schools to streamline the process of correcting demographic details of students.
The Board has emphasised that correct demographic information is essential to ensure that students receive their Mark Sheet-cum-Passing Certificate with accurate details after the Class X and XII Board Examinations.
CBSE Provides Multiple Verification Opportunities
According to the communication, schools and parents are given several opportunities to verify and correct student details during the academic journey.
These include:
- Maintaining correct details in the admission form, scholar register and admission-withdrawal register.
- Ensuring that the Transfer Certificate contains correct demographic information.
- Providing correct details during Class IX registration, which are verified and certified by the school and parents.
- Allowing corrections through the correction window after registration.
- Providing students with their Registration Card for verification.
- Rechecking Class IX registration data before submission of the Class X LOC and obtaining confirmation from parents.
- Providing another correction window after LOC submission.
- Verifying details mentioned on the admit card before the examination.
- Obtaining confirmation of demographic details when passing documents are issued after the result.
The same process is repeated for Classes XI and XII. CBSE stated that this provides approximately 20 opportunities for schools and parents to ensure that student details are correct.
CBSE Highlights Issues in Correction Requests
Despite these verification opportunities, the Board continues to receive a large number of requests for corrections after the declaration of results.
CBSE has observed that some schools submit:
- Incomplete correction requests.
- Missing supporting records from previous schools attended by the student.
- Documents that are not clearly visible.
- Documents containing multiple cuttings.
- Requests without subsequent replies when the Board asks for additional documents.
The Board stated that such issues delay the processing of correction requests.
Schools Must Submit Complete Certified Records
CBSE has directed schools to strictly ensure the following:
- Demographic details must be 100% correct in all school records.
- Instructions issued during registration and LOC submission must be followed.
- Schools must obtain confirmation from parents regarding the correctness of demographic details.
- If a correction request is sent to CBSE, all certified records from previous schools where the student studied must be submitted.
The Board has specifically directed schools to provide complete certified records so that requests can be processed in the minimum possible time.
Incomplete requests will be summarily rejected by CBSE.
Students Should Route Correction Requests Through Schools
CBSE has also observed instances where students:
- Send requests directly to CBSE.
- Send requests through legal notices.
- Approach courts regarding correction requests.
The Board has advised schools to guide students to process such requests through their schools. CBSE noted that the availability of school records is important for examining and deciding such requests, and following other routes may delay the process.

CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to comply with the instructions and ensure that demographic details are carefully verified at every stage.
