In a significant move to enhance student safety, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced new amendments to Chapter 4 of the Affiliation Bye-Laws-2018, focusing on physical infrastructure and safety measures in schools.
According to the directive, all CBSE-affiliated schools are now required to install high-resolution CCTV cameras with real-time audio-visual recording at critical locations including entry/exit points, corridors, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, canteen areas, storerooms, and playgrounds. These cameras must support a minimum 15-day storage backup, readily accessible for inspection by authorities if needed. Washrooms and toilets are exempt from installation to maintain privacy.
This decision aligns with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) guidelines, emphasizing the creation of a secure, abuse-free, and supportive environment for children’s physical and emotional well-being.
