The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a notification inviting self-nominations from eligible teachers and principals of CBSE-affiliated private independent schools for the National Awards to Teachers 2025-26 under the CBSE quota.
The Ministry of Education, Government of India confers the National Awards to Teachers every year to recognize the exceptional contributions of teachers towards improving the quality of school education. CBSE has been asked to recommend six outstanding nominations from its affiliated private independent schools.
Who Can Apply?
Teachers and principals fulfilling the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply online.
For Teachers
- Must have completed at least 10 years of regular teaching service in schools affiliated with a recognized Board by 31 March 2026.
For Principals
- Must have completed 10 years as a teacher and 5 years as a Principal in CBSE-affiliated schools by 31 March 2026.
Additional Eligibility
- Teachers or principals who retired on or after 31 March 2026 are also eligible.
- Principals cannot apply under the Teacher category.
- Applicants can submit only one application under one category.
Application Process
CBSE will accept only online applications through its dedicated portal.
Applicants must complete the registration and upload all required documents, including:
- Self-declaration regarding authenticity of information.
- Recommendation and vigilance clearance from the School Manager.
- Academic and professional qualification certificates.
- Board and school examination results.
- Other supporting documents as specified in the notification.
Last Date to Apply: 12 July 2026
Selection Process
CBSE will prepare a merit list based on several parameters, including:
- Teaching experience
- Academic qualifications
- Performance in qualifying examinations
- Professional achievements
- Research, publications and curriculum development
- Community service
- Student welfare initiatives
- Professional development activities
- Awards and recognitions
The top 24 applicants will be shortlisted and asked to upload verified documents within two days. These candidates will then appear before a National Level Scrutiny Committee for an interaction, after which six final nominations will be recommended by CBSE to the Ministry of Education.

- Undertaking of authenticity
- Service and vigilance clearance certificate
- Academic and professional qualification certificates
- Board/School examination results
- Supporting documents for achievements, publications, research, training, awards, innovations, and community service
Important Note for Schools
CBSE has requested all school heads to widely circulate this information among eligible teachers and principals and ensure that deserving candidates submit their applications before the deadline.
