The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially opened the SARAS 7.0 automated affiliation portal for submission of applications for the academic session 2027–28.
As per Notification No. 07/2026 dated 26.02.2026, schools can now apply under various affiliation categories through the SARAS 7.0 portal.
Additionally, through Notification No. 06/2026 dated 25.02.2026, CBSE has announced important amendments to Appendix V under Chapter 3 of the Affiliation Bye-Laws, 2018, particularly concerning permission of sections based on the school’s built-up area.
📅 Application Window (Session 2027–28)
The online application window will remain open from 26 February 2026 to 31 July 2026 for major categories, including:
- Approval for Middle Class Syllabus
- Fresh Affiliation up to Secondary & Senior Secondary Level (including switch from other Boards)
- Upgradation to Secondary/Senior Secondary Level
- Branch School
- Extension & Restoration of Affiliation
- Permission for Two Shifts
- Section Increase
- Introduction of Additional Subject(s)
- Closure of School
Applications related to land correction (increase/decrease), change of school or society name, interchange/transfer of managing entity, and site shifting will remain open throughout the year.
For Foreign/International Schools and Government & Government-Aided Schools, all application categories will remain open round the year.
🏫 100% Physical Inspection for Key Categories
CBSE has clarified that Fresh Affiliation and Upgradation cases will undergo 100% physical inspection.
Schools must ensure:
- OASIS data is updated
- Mandatory Public Disclosure is complete
- Teachers’ details are properly uploaded
Failure to comply may delay application processing.
📐 Major Amendment: Built-Up Area Based Section Approval
Under amended Appendix-V:
- The maximum number of sections in a school will now be calculated strictly on the basis of Total Built-Up Area.
- Certification must be obtained from the Local Body or Licensed Architect.
- Schools will be permitted 03 sections per 400 sq. meters of built-up area (scaled unit basis).
This amendment aims to standardize infrastructure norms and ensure quality compliance across affiliated institutions.
Schools are advised to carefully review Notifications 06/2026 and 07/2026, adhere to eligibility conditions, documentation requirements, and timelines, and follow the SARAS 7.0 Manual for smooth processing of applications.
