The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a reminder circular regarding the conduct of Practical Examinations, Projects, and Internal Assessments for Classes X and XII for the academic session 2025–26. This follows the earlier Circular dated 01 December 2025, informing schools that the practical exams are scheduled to commence from 1 January 2026.
The Board has directed all affiliated schools to ensure timely preparedness and smooth execution of the assessments. Key instructions include:
Important Requirements for Schools
- Ensure adequate availability of practical answer books before exams begin. Any issues must be reported to the Regional Office.
- Inform students and parents well in advance regarding exam schedules and CBSE guidelines.
- Confirm that laboratories, equipment, and materials are fully prepared for student use.
- Coordinate with External Examiners appointed by CBSE in advance.
- Make necessary arrangements for Children with Special Needs (CWSN).
- Students must appear strictly as per the schedule fixed by the school.
Regarding Uploading of Marks
- Marks must be uploaded on the same day of assessment.
- Internal and External Examiners must ensure correct marks entry, as no corrections will be allowed later.
- Schools must verify maximum marks assigned for each subject before uploading.
- Marks must strictly reflect students’ performance only.
Important Compliance Points
- Answer books now include an undertaking confirming correct marking.
- No exemption from practical exams will be granted to students participating in National/International sports events.
- For Class XII, practical exams must only be conducted by the External Examiner appointed by CBSE.
- Any deviation — including using unauthorized examiners — will result in the assessment being declared null and void.
- Non-compliance may lead to cancellation of the practical examination by the Board.
Schedule Compliance
Schools must ensure the entire process is completed between 1 January 2026 and 14 February 2026. From 1 February onwards, Principals are advised to follow up with staff on the completion and mark submission status.
CBSE has also informed schools that remuneration rates for all exam functionaries have been revised effective Examination 2026.
The circular closes with New Year greetings and appreciation for schools’ continued commitment to academic integrity and student welfare.
