“Empowering Schools to Prevent Substance Abuse”
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), following their MoU signed on 3 September 2025, jointly organised a Drug Awareness Programme at Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, reinforcing their commitment to building drug-free educational spaces.
The programme began with Richa Sharma Agnihotri, Principal of Sanskriti School, highlighting the importance of schools in combating substance abuse and nurturing healthy, informed youth.
Dr Anees C., IRS, Deputy Director, NCB, emphasised the pivotal role of awareness and collective responsibility in combating the drug menace. He highlighted NCB’s multifaceted efforts encompassing enforcement, capacity building, and outreach initiatives, and urged students and teachers to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding society. He also encouraged the school community to actively promote the NCB MANAS Helpline (1933) for providing information and seeking assistance related to drug abuse and trafficking.
The Assistant Professor & Joint Director, CBSE, outlined the Board’s key mental health and well-being initiatives — including the CBSE-NCB MoU, the Counselling Hub & Spoke Model, Parenting Calendar, Career Guidance Dashboard, and CBSE-AIIMS MATE Programme — all designed to strengthen psychosocial well-being and holistic student development.
A presentation highlighted shared strategies for early intervention, de-addiction, and rehabilitation. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 500 students and 25 teachers, reflecting the shared resolve to create drug-free schools and nurture empowered youth.
A powerful street-play (Nukkad Natak) delivered strong anti-drug messages, reinforcing the importance of collective vigilance and awareness with the rallying cry: “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life and Yes to Dreams.”
The event concluded with a pledge for a drug-free life, symbolising collective resolve towards a healthy, vigilant and resilient society.
This initiative forms part of CBSE and NCB’s sustained efforts to integrate substance-abuse prevention within the education system, in alignment with the national vision of creating vigilant, resilient and informed young citizens.
