The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a new circular to streamline the process of corrections in students’ demographic details for Class X and XII board examinations. The move comes in response to the large number of correction requests received by the Board each year, despite schools and parents being given multiple opportunities (up to 20 times) to verify details before results are declared.
Common Issues Identified by CBSE
The Board highlighted several recurring problems with correction requests, including:
- Incomplete or unclear documentation
- Missing certified records from previous schools
- Documents with cuttings or poor visibility
- Lack of response from schools after CBSE seeks clarification
CBSE noted that in many cases, students also bypass schools by sending requests directly to the Board, through legal notices, or even approaching courts—causing unnecessary delays due to non-availability of school records.
Mandatory Compliance for Schools
To ensure faster processing and avoid delays, CBSE has directed all schools to:
- Maintain 100% accurate demographic details in admission forms, scholar registers, and transfer certificates.
- Strictly follow CBSE instructions issued during registration (Class IX & XI) and submission of LOC (Class X & XII).
- Obtain written confirmation from parents at every stage regarding the correctness of demographic details.
- Submit complete certified records from all previous schools as required (details provided in Annexure-A of the circular).
The Board has also clarified that incomplete requests will be summarily rejected.
Key Takeaway
CBSE emphasized that it is the schools’ responsibility to guide students and parents in ensuring demographic accuracy at every step—right from registration to issuance of admit cards and results. The Board has urged schools to process all corrections through the proper channel to avoid last-minute complications.
