The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced important amendments to the Affiliation Bye-Laws, 2018, specifically under Chapter 4, which deals with infrastructure requirements for affiliated schools.
The changes were recommended by the Affiliation Committee in its meeting held on 21 May 2025 (Agenda Item XIII), ratified by the Governing Body on 25 June 2025 (Agenda Item IV), and approved by the Controlling Authority of CBSE.
These amendments aim to strengthen digital infrastructure and upgrade laboratory provisions to meet the evolving academic needs of students.
Key Amendments Notified:
Clause 4.4.1 – Computer Infrastructure
- Earlier: Minimum of 20 computers, with a 1:20 computer-to-student ratio.
- Now: Minimum of 40 computers, with a 1:18 computer-to-student ratio.
Clause 4.4.3 – Laboratory Requirements
- Earlier: One lab for up to 800 students; an additional lab required for every next 800 students.
- Now: One lab for up to 720 students; an additional lab required for every next 720 students.
Implications for Schools:
These revised rules will affect all CBSE-affiliated schools undergoing fresh affiliation, upgradation, or renewal. Schools are advised to review and realign their infrastructure planning in accordance with the new standards to ensure compliance.
